Case Study
You have been asked to teach a fitness class at your local community center three mornings a week. The community center weight room has 4 squat/press racks, bars, bumper plates, dumbbells and kettlebells in a range of sizes, 4 TRX units, cones, jump ropes, and a large open indoor space as well as an outdoor courtyard. You may bring in any additional equipment you would like.
Design a four-week cycle of classes in which you develop strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness in three classes per week. Provide scaling options for the different experience and fitness levels in each class. Develop this case study as you see fit, including defining your audience, describing what equipment and training style you will use, and explaining how you would deal with potential problems.
Include a table of exercises and modifications for all four weeks, as well as a narrative of how you will set up your class and the necessary considerations. Feel free to download the template below to design your case study.
Some questions that will help you design your class:
Who is your target audience?
What equipment do you plan on using?
What are your teaching strengths/weaknesses? Ie, what equipment are you comfortable using to teach strength? Can you teach specific skill such as martial arts or dance? Do you like to incorporate games into your classes?
How many people do you feel comfortable handling at one time?
What are your core exercises going to be? How can you modify or substitute them to be more or less challenging?
What is your goal for your participants? What methods/equipment are you going to use to teach your class?
What is the duration of each class? What specific components are you going to include on a daily and weekly basis?
What does your warm-up and cool-down routine look like?
What specific skills are you going to teach?
How many segments will make up your workout? (1-3 is ideal) What training methods/equipment will you use for each segment?
How will you progress your clients from week to week?

Specialist in Group Fitness
I will focus on three things in my fitness program: developing endurance, strength, and cardiovascular fitness. Endurance refers to the physical ability of the body to sustain exercise for a more extended period. Cardiovascular endurance refers to the capability of the lungs and heart to fuel oxygen to the whole body. On the other hand, muscular endurance is the capability of muscles to work for a longer continuous period without getting exhausted. Strength in a fitness program refers to the ability to lift or carry weights. During my fitness program, the targeted audiences are all people who are willing to participate. However, all the participants will be required to be above 18 years for easy coordination and planning of the program. I will make several modifications to the program to ensure it fits and helps all the participants.
I am targeting to use different equipment in the fitness program, including kettlebells, goblet squat, resistance bands, jumping ropes, bikes, and medicine balls. The kettlebell goblet squat will help the participants perform squats to gain muscle strength around the arms and legs. The resistance bands that are elastic and rubbery will perform different exercises aiming to strengthen the participant's muscles. The jumping ropes will be used to boost endurance, increase core strength and cardiovascular health. On the other hand, riding bikes will play a significant role in the program as it will improve cardiovascular fitness by strengthening the lungs and heart.
I understand that during the program, encountering problems will be unavoidable. I believe that the participants will come with their goals. Some will think that things will change or will achieve these goals overnight, which is not possible. Therefore, this would result in them feeling less motivated to continue with the program. Dealing with the problem will require me to prepare them psychologically the first day they attend the program. To understand achieving these goals will need patience and persistence. Also, during the program, some will face strains and sprains. Dealing with this problem will require me to convince them that the fitness program requires perseverance as the body as this is a common problem, which they will overcome.
Being in a fitness program for a long time, I have realized my several strengths and weaknesses. Some of the strengths that I possess include strong communication skills, enabling me to communicate with the training participants effectively. I own both verbal and non-verbal skills. Second, I have a high practice of tolerance and patient, which enables me to move along with the participants during their whole training program. I also have great cycling, jumping ropes, and squats, which I believe I will use to help my participants achieve their fitness goals. It is unfortunate that I also have several weaknesses. One of the greatest weaknesses is that I am reluctant to do follow-up assessments for my program participants. Hence, this denies me the chance to track both the success and failure of the program. Also, so...
