The signature assignment involved managing a fictitious patient that was presented to us. The patient presented with different medical conditions and from the information that was supplied, we were required to consider the medical history to determine the patient’s current medications and provide effective care. This information is critical to check if the patient can receive anesthesia and the right dosage for a particular patient. Besides, examining the patient’s medical history will guide on the potential medical emergencies that would arise in dental practice using simulated events. The assignment thought me valuable lessons about the need to modify dental hygiene care plans as defined by the interrelationships between general and oral health care to improve patient care, safety, and outcomes.

With the signature assignment, I faced several challenges but the main issue was that the patient was an alcoholic, which required a modification of the treatment plan. Alcohol can result in various dental diseases and impact dental treatment plans for alcoholic patients (R, 2018). Besides, alcohol is known to interact with other drugs and will cause other issues such as compliance with the medication plans and appointments. Following the medico-legal guidelines, I recorded alcohol consumption in the fictitious patient’s records and notes and provided appropriate advice to the patient. My success in completing the assignment was that I arranged for a modified plan that was effective for that specific patient.
