Second-hand smoke refers to the mixture of the burning cigarette and the smoke breathed out. It contains thousands of compositions of elements that are mostly harmful. The smog causes a potential threat to infants, especially when exposed to this smoke. It poses various health challenges to them that range from asthmatic attacks, respiratory and ear diseases and could result in the untimely death of the newborn. Baheiraei (2015) notes significant slow growth in infants vulnerable to second-hand smoke than those not at risk. Continued exposure may lead to delayed milestone attainment and have dire repercussions to the infant. It can affect the regular activities of the heart and blood. Due to this reason, it can result in a heart attack.
The caregivers need to understand how brief the exposure could be and the effects can be severe. It is due to this fact that they are encouraged to adhere to this formulated health promotion plan. The children should be in a smoke-free environment. Adults should avoid smoking outside or in different rooms entirely since they pollute the surrounding. Polluted air can diffuse in the entire surrounding to where the infant is situated. The fact that sometimes the smog may not be smelt does not imply it is less harmful. Avoid smoking even when the kids are away since the smoke remains for hours. It is suitable for the caregiver to note that no second-hand smoke is good for the infant.
