Description of the database
National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data provides national data on civilian, non-institutionalized child and adult populations, including the prevalence of chronic conditions. The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) conducts the annual survey where households are surveyed. The national surveys are conducted annually and based on nationally representative families within households.
Type of Data
There are different types of data such as influenza vaccination among children, breast cancer screening among women, health insurance coverage, health care utilization by Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, and health outcomes after smoking cessation. Smokers who have chronic conditions are more likely to be frequent users of health care services.
