Science, technology, and society directly relate to each other. Science studies nature through observation and experiment. Technology is the application of scientific knowledge in practical, like industrial advancements. The society is a large number of people staying in a particular area. Therefore, it is important to note that science and technology are an integral part of the community in different ways, such as social, economic, and political lives. Science and technology contribute to the society through the creation of knowledge and innovation. The knowledge and innovations help in solving various problems facing humanity, thus improving livelihoods. This short reflection essay underscores the relationship between science, technology, and society and why the link matters in my career field.
The study of science, technology, and society is an emerging course in various universities. The course unit comprises of the different ways in which social, political, and economic factors affect science and technology, which in turn affects them. Therefore, it is important to understand that the STS 1101 made me become a critical thinker. I developed the skill of critical thinking throughout the course by analyzing and exploring the complex relationship between science, technology, and humans. I have developed the critical thinking aspect through self-examinations, as one can research and come up with questions like the effects of technology advancement to human lives.
