Differences between evidence-based practice and research
Evidence-based practice (EBP) and research are essential concepts in nursing. There exist considerable variations between evidence-based practice and research. The research aims to generate new information and knowledge or validate existing knowledge (Chien, 2019). Acquiring the required knowledge during research is based on theories. Researchers focus on exploration, investigation, and discovery (Chien, 2019). They must understand science’s philosophy when indulging the research activities. This knowledge helps them to identify the scientific methods they should use for each research they conduct. Also, researchers are expected to know and follow sequential steps to ascertain the validity and reliability of their results at the end of the study (Chien, 2019). The beginning of research is introduced by formulating a question that guides researchers to investigate a specific phenomenon. This question is developed considering the available knowledge gap. Next, investigation helps in the comprehensive and systematic review of the identified literature (Chien, 2019). Research is carried out using two methods; qualitative and quantitative research methods. While qualitative research is used to understand things like thoughts, quantitative research tests or confirms something (Rutberg & Bouikidis, 2018). The methods chosen depend on the aim of the study.
On the other hand, evidence-based practice is the conveying of evidence used in making clinical decisions. EBP aims to use the best available evidence to make decisions related to patient care (Chien, 2019). Although EBP and research differ significantly, most of the evidence originates from previously conducted research. EBP exceeds research because it engages clinical expertise, patient preference, and values in its implementation (Chien, 2019). The use of EBP in nursing considers that sometimes the best evidence stems from leaders and experts (Chien, 2019). Thus, it does not have to engage a definitive from existing research results. EBP involves a revolution in finding the best available evidence to implement in clinical practice. The process entails seven vital steps that include cultivating a spirit of inquiry; asking a burning clinical question; collecting the most relevant and best advice; appraising the evidence critically; integrating evidence with clinical expertise, patient preferences, and values in making a decision or change in practice; evaluating the practice decision of change; and disseminating EBP results (Chien, 2019). These steps aid in the achievement of EBP in the nursing profession.
Importance and application of health care information, data mining, and importance to application in patient care outcomes
Healthcare information is data related to a person’s treatment history. This data includes aspects like the realized symptoms (The American Health Information Management Association, n.d.). Healthcare information is used in two different ways. First, individually identify the changes in a patient’s health. On the other hand, as part of extensive data set to understa...
