Case studies on dental care provide information necessary to execute the evaluation of a patient. Moreover, these aid in determining a patient’s dental condition and helps in deciding on the most suitable treatment regimen to maintain or improve the patient’s oral hygiene.
Some case studies enumerate and explain the methods done in all patient groups. The patient groups consist of various individuals that may be selected based on patient qualities, age, or sex. Additionally, the vital signs, current medications, and comorbidities may also be included in the information. These additional data can help determine whether a supplementary treatment is necessary for the patient.
Furthermore, case studies support evidence-based practice by revealing the appropriate techniques in dental hygiene, the proper toothbrush type, and toothbrushing methods that can be best applied to the patient.
The professor has set the objectives and learning outcomes before the start of the semester. These learning outcomes have been met in most of the subjects such as the CLO1, CLO 3, and DHYG 302.
First, CLO 1 discusses the models and theories related to the dental clinical practice. An evaluation and complete analysis of the data is vital in the field of dentistry to encourage the proper directions for good oral hygiene. To provide comprehensive dental care, vital signs must be taken at the start, middle, and end of the dental examination. This is to ensure the patient’s welfare throughout the dental session.
Second, CLO 3 expounds on the significance of following the ethical rules in the dental hygiene practice. The ethics of the clinical dental care practice focuses on the skilled assessment, comprehension, and analysis of the patient’s oral hygiene. These are the crucial factors that allow dental hygienists to prove the validity and reliability of the presented information. Moreover, following the code of ethics would signify professionalism. This shall give the clinician the authority to explain the various aspects of the treatment and on whether the treatment shall proceed or discontinued.
