Reflecting on Cultural Sensitivity in Patient Care
Due to technological progress, the world has become a global civilization. As a result, people migrate from one nation to another in quest of better employment and business opportunities, education, and health care. Therefore, immigration expansion results in a culturally diverse population.
Professional practice
A culturally diverse population demands a culturally sensitive healthcare setting. Nurses must apply professional standards when handling patients of diverse cultures. In addition, it requires healthcare practitioners to provide Care with cultural awareness. Nevertheless, many practitioners lack the training essential to do so (Tucker et al., 2015). I am aware that, as a nurse, I will inevitably interact with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Given the diversity of my patients' requirements, I will be expected to include their cultures and values in their Care.
Personal Strengths and Weaknesses
Some of my strengths included the ability to communicate with patients, being empathic with patients from diverse cultures, and showing caring to all patients despite their cultural practices/background. These qualities allowed me to adapt to various situations and cultural elements. In addition, my communication ability ensured that I grasped all the varied facets of the diverse practices. One of my weaknesses was an excessive desire to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. However, I adopted a personal calendar that assisted me in scheduling my activities.
