Nutrition Research Paper: Soy and Soy Milk, Safe or not?

Essay Instructions:

When I started out soy milk was just becoming popular in the markets but was something I was taught to discourage because it was inferior to milk in terms of nutrition; specifically vitamin D and calcium. Of course now soy milk is fortified, is much more comparable to cow's milk and is recommended as a nutritious alternative to those with dairy intolerances. In addition, soy products have become much more ubiquitous in the food market in the last decade, now ranging from minimally processed to highly processed. Most relevant to this week's topic would be soy yogurt or soy cheese in addition to soy milk.
The health implications related to the use of soy in the diet are quite controversial. Some studies have found that consuming soy products reduce the risk of breast cancer and symptoms related to menopause.
Others report that the consumption of soy is all hype and have found the complete opposite results, for example increased risk for health problems and cancers.
Comment on one or more of the following:
Why should or shouldn't our patients consume soy?
Would you recommend it for those who are vegetarian or intolerant of dairy?
Are there sources of soy that you would recommend over others?
How does processing of soy change it's health benefits?
How frequent would you recommend that your patients consume soy, if at all?

There have been reports where soy milk has been described as having some element of nutrition that is comparable to the cow milk. For most of the people that take the milk it is usually a personal preference or the fact that they are allergic to the dairy products. In some of the cases, there are those that take the milk simply because they are vegetarian ("Soy foods and cancer", 2016). Most of the research, has also indicated that the milk also some aspect health benefits such as reducing incidences of cancer compared to the cow’s milk. However, a closer look at the milk further reveals that there are negative aspects associated with milk that warrant the ban on the same for milk. There are quite a number of reasons that soy milk shouldn’t be taken by patients ("10 Reasons to Never Ever Drink Soy Milk", 2016).
One of the main reasons that the milk is discouraged for patient, is that it contains a lot of phytoestrogens. These are plant compounds that work like estrogen. The basic argument in this case, is with reference to the fact that, the compounds tend to block the actions of the hormone in question relative to the fact that have the same structure. As such it may work like an inhibitor causing some element of hormonal imbalance in the body which can be catastrophic for a patient.
There have been research findings that have indicated that the...
