My response to Borderline Personality Disorder
A borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a psychological problem surrounding how someone feels and thinks about themselves. These unusual thoughts and feelings affect self-imaging, raise difficulties in managing emotions and behaviors, leading to impaired functioning in daily life, such as the increased prevalence of unstable relationships. More often, a person with BPD has elevated feelings and fear of being abandoned and he or she may often find it troubling to stay alone. As a result of these emotional insecurities, and the need to be around others, an individual with BPD may depict specific features including unexplained anger, increased impulsivity, and mood swings. These diagnostic symptoms may push others away, yet the affected person wants a loving and long-lasting relationship. Thus, BPD can clinically be diagnosed via symptomatic evaluation by identifying a spectrum of symptoms, including extreme sensitivity to perceived interpersonal slights, an unstable sense of self, intense and volatile emotionality, and impulsive behavioral patterns that are often self-destructive (Gunderson et al., 2018).
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and narcissistic personality disorder have similarities that include an increased need for constant attention, affective and emotional instabilities, and unpredictable behavioral patterns. Symptoms in these two disorders tend to overlap. Both expressed underneath insecurities, which distorts their perceptions and feelings about themselves and others. The personal relations may often be strained in both disorders, making them predisposed to isolation and inability to keep their jobs due to increased impulsivity and difficulties in regulating moods. Both conditions tend to co-exist with other psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, substance use disorders, and eating disorders.
