Explain whether you would select a qualitative or quantitative design to collect data and evaluate the effectiveness of your evidence-based practice project proposal. Identify which data collection tool you would specifically use and explain why this design is best for your evidence-based practice project proposal.
The best approach or research design to use for the evidence-based practice project proposal has to combine the qualitative and quantitative approaches. Therefore, to effectually assess the effectiveness of the proposed intervention, the best research design has to be the longitudinal study. This will help to best collect the most appropriate design to determine the efficacy of the proposed intervention.
A longitudinal study is a study that considers or observes the behavior of the participants against the chosen variables over a prolonged period of time. Longitudinal studies take weeks, months, and at times, depending on the topic, they can take years. Researchers collect all the information they deem relevant over time and then assess it to make conclusions or deductible discernments.
For the study at hand, the longitudinal study fits perfectly because of the time that it takes for the results of an intervention to be recorded. This means that the implementation and evaluation of the intervention will take some time, and this time will be used to collect relevant data. The researchers will need time to observe and note the effects of the intervention on the participants, and a longitudinal study has provisions for such to happen.
The data collection tool that can be used for a study is determined by several factors. As Paradis et al. (2016) indicate, different factors determine the type of data collection tool that can be used in a study. The researchers note that the type of data being collected and how the data will be assessed are crucial factors to consider while looking for a data collection tool. Also, the cost of the process should help determine how or which type will be used.
