For this one-page paper:
Please submit a proposal for your second paper, written in prose paragraphs (not as a bulleted list) and containing, at minimum, the following information:
A description of the issue you plan to examine
A discussion of why this issue is important and worthy of examination
A statement of your current position on the issue--does it seem to meet Singer's definition of speciesism or not?
A plan for conducting research--which sources, if you know of any at this point, do you plan to examine?
A discussion of any complications or problems you foresee in examining this issue
The proposal must be a minimum of 1 complete page (double-spaced) and is worth 5 extra credit points. If you are unsure which issue you wish to examine, you may propose multiple possible issues. I reserve the right to redirect any student whose proposed issue does not meet the requirements for the paper; however, any student who submits a proposal of the required length and containing the required information will receive the extra credit points for this assignment.

Dogfighting is an inhumane act where dogs are bred, conditioned and trained, and then placed in cages to fight each other as people watch in amusement while others place bets. Each fight usually lasts for at least one hour and ends when one of the animals cannot continue. Such activities are considered illegal in many countries, including the United States. However, dogfighting is common in some Asian countries, and animal activists have been vocal in expressing frustration over the issue.
