Latanoprost is one of the most widely used drugs to treat glaucoma. It helps with the reduction of pressure buildup in the eyes. In glaucoma, high-pressure buildup in the eyes may cause damage to the optic nerve. The drug reduces the intraocular pressure by increasing the rate at which aqueous humor flows out. The outflow of aqueous humor leads to a reduction in the pressure buildup in the eyes. In glaucoma, this reduction in pressure is desirable as it helps reduce the risk of optic nerve damage. Further, extensive studies involving animals and humans have shown that the main way latanoprost work is through increasing uveoscleral flow (Sinha et al., 2020). There are several key ways through which the effectiveness of latanoprost is monitored.
