Decriminalization of Marijuana
I support the current campaign to decriminalize marijuana. My first argument in favor of decriminalizing marijuana for recreational use is that it has no connection to crime or violence. Statistics demonstrate that there is no reason to criminalize marijuana users or owners since most of these individuals have shown no instances of violence or other criminal behavior. Second, I favor decriminalization because it would guarantee that government spending on the legalization program is put toward more practical projects. Municipalities spend a lot of money fighting the marijuana war to police the law and lock up offenders (Cook et al., 2020). There is little doubt that this money might be used more effectively to compensate teachers or care for the elderly. Although I have never smoked marijuana, I believe that decriminalizing it is one of the most crucial problems facing the US today. Money spent on the drug war isn't reducing drug usage. In the same way that individuals are allowed to use cigarettes and alcohol for leisure at a regulated pace, decriminalization will also result in employment possibilities.
Since other drugs have shown reckless, violent behavior, decriminalizing marijuana is less likely to spark a discussion about decriminalizing other drugs.
