Isolation and Quarantine
Question One
Quarantine involves separating and limiting the movement of individuals who have been exposed to a contagious disease (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2020). The point is to keep the individuals under observation for a specific period to find out whether they caught the disease while protecting the healthy population. People who have been in contact with individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19, a contagious disease, present a suitable situation for quarantining. Isolation involves separating people who have been confirmed as having a contagious disease (CDC, 2020). The point is to ensure that they do not spread the disease to healthy people. Individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 make a good case for isolation. Quarantined and Isolated individuals should not be mixed but should be with food and non-food items, as well as medicine for individuals in isolation. In both cases, the federal, state, and local governments have the legal right to quarantine/isolate individuals in the interest of protecting the public’s health (CDC, 2020).
Question Two
As a person with a hearing disability, I am proficient with American Sign Language (ASL). Like the one-tenth population of Americans, I also do not receive information from audible sources because I am deaf (Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), 2011). As a result, I would not be able to receive warnings and evacuation instructions during a Category 4 hurricane on time since there are often given through audible mediums such as sirens. This may impede my ability to respond to such an emergency and put me in danger. However, public health officials can meet my functional needs by making sure auxiliary services are available for effective communication during evacuation. Auxiliary services that apply to my specific needs include sign language interpreters on televisions or other visual media (FEMA, 2010).
Question Three
A special needs registry ensures that states identify and locate people with disabilities or other special healthcare needs so that they can be assisted during an emergency. Rhodes Islands special needs registry, referred to as Rhode Island Special Needs Emergency Registry (RISNER), was formed in 2007 (Rajotte, Patel, Coyne, & Bates-Manni, 2016), under the management of Rhode Island department of health.
