Fort Lauderdale Airspace
I am living in Pompano Beach, Florida, a city in Boward County, located along the coast of Atlantic Ocean, more or less 5 miles south of Boca Raton and north of Fort Lauderdale, with a population estimates of 112,118 as of 2019 (U.S. Census Bureau). Named after the primary choice of fish caught for food in the coastal waters, our town was settled by farmers back in 1884 but was only incorporated by the late 1900s. Tragic hurricane damage swept the town back in 1928, leading to the decision to move the town’s site a little farther inland, which later became a market for fruits and vegetables during the winter season. The nearest beach area developed as a resort community, and by 1947 the two towns merged as the city of Pompano Beach (Encyclopaedia Britannica). This general characteristics of the town’s local economy, culture, and history is one of the main reasons for the allocation and the location of the different airspaces in the town.
One of the notable places here in our city is Pompano Beach Air Park, which is situated in the heart of the Gold Coast and is considered as the center of the general aviation needs of Broward County. According to the official website of the City of Pompano Beach, this facility provides a various and numerous aviation services such as aircraft rental, flight training, a small tour for scenic rides, air taxi services, aerial photography, air ambulance, search and rescue, surveying and mapping, rescue, aircraft sales storage hangers, and fueling, among others. According to AOPA, Pompano Beach Airpark has a surveyed elevation of 19 feet, with its longest runway stretching at 4,918 ft (1,499m). The aerial transportation facility’s Runway 15/33 has a dimension of 4,918 x 150 ft (1,499 x 46m) with a weight-bearing capacity of 30,000 lbs for a single wheel; Runway 06/24 has a dimension of 4001 x 150 ft (1220 x 46 m) with a weight-bearing capacity of 20,000 lbs on a single wheel; the smaller Runway 10/28 has a dimension of 3,502 x 100 ft (1,067 x 30m) with a single wheel weight-bearing capacity of 26,000 lbs (KPMP).
The Lauderdale Executive Airport is near our city. Located at the very center of Fort Lauderdale’s business district, the Airport caters to a variety of general aviation needs such as; aircraft parking and refueling, air ambulance, corporate aviation, maintena...
