Patient assessment helps detect and confirm a problem's presence or progress. Regular assessments help monitor disease progress and treatment effectiveness and assess the severity of damage or any complications that may arise during the treatment or disease course. This way, the healthcare provider can give appropriate and precise treatment that, in turn, offers better prognoses (Tollefson et al., 2018). Assessments help healthcare practitioners obtain baseline status that can be used to evaluate patients' progress, choose the best treatment options and detect complications early.
Assessing the neurovascular status is important for the early detection of neurovascular function deterioration. These assessments help evaluate the sensory and motor functions and the efficiency of the circulation in the peripheries (Tollefson et al., 2018). Diabetic patients are at risk of neurovascular deterioration brought about by the disease. Therefore, checking for classical signs and symptoms of circulation deprivation and nerve damage, like change in skin colour or numbness, can show signs of risk of developing foot ulceration. Therefore, regular examinations of the feet, eyes and kidney functions are necessary to monitor and detect any neurovascular changes. According to Tollefson et al. (2018), early detection and interventions can be taken to improve the quality of life and avoid complications and further damage or disabilities.
