Abstract
The eating behaviors that one develops are relative to the psychological, social and biological aspects derived from the culture, traditions and the family factors that one is exposed to in their environment. These behaviors are picked early in life and develop gradually in the adolescents and the young adults to take form in adulthood. Risky nutritional habits are detrimental to the population as they have been reported to cause public health bottlenecks, resulting in massive costs in health and campaigns (Food and Agricultural Organisation, 2014). Different cultures across the globe have their share of risky nutritional habits that have historically impeded their public health status and threaten the future generations. Given that culture of the various populations is involved, the problems do not just affect one set of the pupation within the culture, but cuts across board. Over the years, the concern among most scholars on the issues related to risky nutritional habits has drawn a lot of attentions especially with reference to public health and sustainable medical as well as policy interventions. Most of the chronic diseases that have been on the rise have been associated with risky nutritional habits among the population from different cultures. Planning for the interventions on the same is crucial; however, the first step should be to understand the different risky nutritional habits among the various cultures across the globe (Food and Agricultural Organisation, 2014).
Thesis: Different world cultures have developed risky nutritional behaviors over time which impact on global public health.
African American Culture
Risky nutritional behaviors have detrimental effects on the practicing communities. Obesity among the African Americans has been on the rise since the 80s. It is estimated that the number of African Americans that are now obese has tripled (Friday, 2012). Due to the level of discrimination that the African Americans faced over the years, most of them have grown up in poor neighborhoods. The level of obesity is attributed to the dietary adoptions that most of the population has taken especially women. Most of the women are used to the fasts foods that are offered in most of the food chains across the counties, promising convenience. In addition, sedentary lifestyle has also been cited by multiple researches as one of the factors that are leading to obesity among the African Americans. Given that most of the African Americans have grown up in insecure neighborhoods, it is normal for the families to stay indoors. Some of the research findings also indicate that genetics could have a part to play, although the matter is still highly disputed (Food and Agricultural Organization, 2014).
Mexican Culture
In the last two decades, the Mexican community has also had some significant risky nutritional behaviors. This has aroused expected concerns among the researchers and the clinicians, calling for a nationwide approach to curb the disorders (Barriguete-Meléndez et al., 2009). One of the most common behaviors noted in the Mexican culture relates to binge feeding. Of concern also is the fact that most of the persons that have been found to be...
