Introduction
Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a lung disease (pneumonia) obtained infectiously from usual social contact as opposed to being obtained during hospitalization. CAP is a common disease affecting people of different ages, but mostly adults aged 65 years leading to excessive mortality and morbidity in U.S (Richard, 2014).This demands an improvement in health care so as to fight this disease. The initial way to counteract this disease is by developing a practice guideline that will be used by health care practitioners, hospitalists and physicians. This essay, will therefore, look into the changes that can be made on the practice guideline, the changes that need to be made, the effect the changes will have on this clinical guideline and the strategies that can be used to improve the likelihood of a new practice guideline.
The practice guideline needs to be altered on different areas. Such include the chest radiography which is needed for diagnosis of CAP where the test should be done in patients with clinically suspected CAP. This radiography will help identify several chest illnesses that will act as the starting point of making care decisions. Moreso, after every laboratory test, evaluation of pathogens identified should be done as they would alter standard empiric therapy (Tracy, 2011). Once the evaluation is done, a comparison should be done between pathogens driven therapy and empiric therapy in patients with CAP.
