The utilization of information technology in the healthcare systems has significantly improved the quality of care that these facilities offer. The Electronic Medical Records (EMR’s) is among the technological advancements in medicine that has enhanced the handling of patient information. In the 1990’s, the emergence of the internet and computers becoming cheaper and more affordable, put pressure on healthcare facilities to incorporate EMR’s into their systems. At this time, there was the need to ensure a reduction in the medical costs whose significant contributor was the paperwork and record filing tasks. The internet provided an easier way of communicating with other practitioners and also with the clients (Weber-Jahnke & Mason-Blakley, 2011). The 2000’s saw the introduction of web-based software that made it critical for EMR’s to be created through remotely-hosted systems. The technique offered an opportunity for physicians to access or store information in an integrated system that made the practice attractive.
