The person I admire in the health care field is Sue Desmond-Hellmann. One of Desmond-Hellmann’s leadership characteristics is innovation, as she strives to bring in new ideas and concepts that improve health outcomes (FordFoundation, 2021). For example, during her time in Genentech, she played a pivotal role in developing two groundbreaking cancer drugs, Avastin and Herceptin. The innovative drugs contribute to treating different cancers, including breast, ovarian, and lung cancer. Another trait that describes Desmond-Hellmann is vision. In her tenure as the CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, she worked towards the foundation’s vision of enhancing health equality (FordFoundation, 2021).
