The Quality of Care
The quality of care can be measured from the patient’s perspective using surveys. Specifically, it can be referred to as the totality of characteristics of medical products and services, which can satisfy consumers’ needs. Patient satisfaction is one of the operationalizations of the concept of the quality of care (Barnett, 2019). In that light, evaluating the healthcare services based on personal expectations and preferences can be used to measure the quality of care. If patients give the best rating to a specific health professional, they deliver high-quality care.
When it comes to healthcare providers, the quality of care can be measured based on the number of patients treated successfully. A good doctor treats his or her patients well and recommends the best medications or treatment procedures. For example, a surgeon performs surgery that one understands the procedure to avoid post-surgery health complications (Saver et al., 2015). If the person performs ten surgeries and all of them become a success, it means that the quality of care provided is the best.
