Healthcare policy impacts healthcare organizations by informing organizational changes relating to government initiatives and political reforms. For example, the New Public Management (NPM) policy questioned the validity of the traditional professional dominance. Consequently, it led to the introduction of the managerialism logic into healthcare practice in that work needed to be controlled and organized by managers to attain organizational objectives in efficient and cost-effective health care (Nilsen et al., 2020). Accordingly, healthcare policy impacts patient access to care and the quality of care provided, impacting their overall wellbeing and health outcomes. For example, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) led to reforms in mitigating medical expenses, enhance care quality, and improve access to all Americans, which impacts patient-care outcomes (Cleveland, Motter, & Smith, 2019). Accordingly, the ACA ensured cost-effective quality care in two avenues: by offering insurance coverage to roughly 50 million individuals who were currently uninsured and by controlling medical care costs by reforming how healthcare services are reimbursed.
