Family Health Assessment
Family assessment is a crucial process is an essential aspect that helps individuals to understand different social health determinants that impact the family. Social health determinants are factors and conditions that dominate the family related to age, work, and overall life (Friedman & Banegas, 2018). They can be identified as factors including health access, social support, employment, physical environment, neighborhood, education, and socioeconomic status. The identified elements are essential since they determine the family's functional pattern. It is necessary to understand family based on the identified factors for effective development of actions plans which would positively impact. The paper is based on an interview I conducted in a family after gaining permission, as shown in Appendix 1.
Family Structure
The structure of the interviewed family is the nuclear family structure. A nuclear family structure contains a mother, father, and children (Aeby et al., 2019). The family structure is simple and easy to manage regarding functional issues and health problems. The family is composed of both parents who were in their late thirties with father at 38 and mother at 30. They have two children, a girl, and a boy, as noted in Appendix 1. The boy was 12 years while the girl was nine years. Based on ethnicity, both the parents are African-Americans. The family is in the lower class due to the constant financial problems that inhibit them from successfully achieving the economic objectives. Based on spirituality, the family constantly worships and is Christian-based. Lastly, the environment is unreliable due to increased pollution and dumping around the area. The family is prone to some significant environmental challenges. Therefore, the family structure is adequate to influence health behaviors.
Health Behaviors
The current health behaviors of the family are unstable due to different social issues which heavily impact their access to healthcare. Family health majorly relies on nutrition due to health stability (Kaakinen et al., 2019). The family is exposed to two meals a day, which they obtain with many difficulties. Additionally, they depend on snacks that do not adequately provide a healthy diet for fighting diseases. Therefore, the family is exposed to unhealthy behaviors and conditions and has inadequate nutrition. The current health condition of the family is also influenced by the ability to access health facilities. Due to the socioeconomic position, the family has difficulty successfully engaging in health promotion. Therefore, the identified elements show that the current health position of the family needs adequate improvement and enhancement based on an appropriate functional pattern.
Functional Health Patterns
