In the health care industry, nurses comprise the practitioners who make up the largest population compared to other specialists. The World Health Statistics Report shows that the total population of midwives and nurses worldwide is about 29 million. This number is still expected to increase since more nurses will be needed in the future (Haddad, Annamaraju & Toney, 2022). Contrary to the estimates, most healthcare systems continue to face nursing shortages. Numerous issues of concern are related the nursing profession shortage. The aging population is a potential cause of this shortage. Studies have revealed that the need for health services increases as a person ages. Older people usually have several diagnoses and comorbidities that make them to seek treatment often. As the population strives to survive longer, the required health services also increase. Hence, treating some long-term illnesses can be straining for the workforce.
