PEBPP (progressive, evidence-based practice project) incorporates clinical knowledge, research evidence, and patients' preferences. Typically, EBPP is a problem-solving model that helps nurses provide quality healthcare (LoBiondo-Wood, & Haber, 2014). Additionally, PEBPP allows nurses to have enough evidence when formulating decisions in their practice. Technology and lifestyle have revolutionized the healthcare sector; therefore, evaluating research often helps nurses understand and incorporate new protocols in the nursing practice. The primary objective of this project is to assess and research hospital-acquired infections. Health acquired infections are usually infections that patient acquires in hospital facilities especially after a procedure or long-term care. The most typical causes of the infections include pathogens, viruses, SSI (surgical site infection), and UTI (urinary tract infection) (Geerlings, 2016).
Significance of the Problem
According to CDC (center for disease control and prevention) 2018, HAIs (health acquired infections) cause at least 99,000 deaths in America annually. The highest number of HAIs is urinary tract infections contributing to more than 30% of deaths in USA hospitals.
PICO question
PICO question is vital in PEBPP since it helps nurses evaluate and determine a health outcome (Hastings & Fisher, 2014). Furthermore, the PICO question resonates around four main entities, timeframe, intervention and comparison, intervention (proposed), and population. For the PEBPP project, the PICO question is, what are the primary causes of health acquired infections HAIs and what is the role of nurses and healthcare stakeholders in lowering the rate of HAIs?
Timeframe
The PEBPP will be carried in five months, and the implementation of the project shall be within six weeks. The evidence shall be presented to health care staff members and other stakeholders.
