As John Kotter says, the failure rate of changes in the healthcare sector is about 70%. Even those changes that are successful take a long period to implement, which might be between 5 and 7 years (Brickman, 2016). One of the recent unsuccessful changes in the healthcare industry that an individual has experienced is the personalization and standardization of medical services to promote accessibility. Different governments have tried to facilitate the access of healthcare services but have failed since hospitals are stuck in standardizing and personalizing patient care.
Some of the things that make personalization and standardization of healthcare services impossible include the cottage industry mentality, exclusive workplace cultures, politics, government regulations, and the use of obsolete leadership methods (Llopis, 2020). Indeed, having a personalization mindset enables health institutions to have patient-centered objectives, which is something that has not been achieved for many years. The two primary things that one should do to improve the situation are attracting talented and highly skilled health professionals and allowing patients to choose their physicians. However, the government should intervene and reduce the costs of healthcare services by coming up with affordable health insurance programs.
