Patients-centered care is one initiative that, if implemented effectively in a medical facility, can significantly upgrade the safety and quality of health care services. The widely acknowledged dimensions of the action are the physical comfort, care coordination, respect and emotional support. The paper provides a brief summary of a patient-centered initiative, its usefulness and how it can be enhanced to promote the patient care practice.
A Quality and Safety Initiative
A patient-focused care initiative entails a broad range of thoughts and concepts related to the delivery of medical care. It involves ideas such as communication between doctors and patients during the consultations. Establishing a patient-centered approach to health care, requires an organization to monitor and report patients' feedback frequently. The intention of the drive is to sensitize patients on their rights and to address the challenges that they encounter (Grob, Schlesinger, Davis, Cohen, & Lapps, 2013). Most Australian health care institutions and the government have devised a wide range of policies to encourage patients centered health care. The effectiveness of the initiative can be assessed through requesting patients to rate the quality of services offered.
Reasons for the Initiative
Patient-driven means of providing health care services is adopted to enable customers to value the experience. Therefore, the approach results to more emphasis on customer care experience as an end product of the service delivered. The health facility will be, in essence, providing a quality experience to the patient, as opposed to providing services to the patients. A firm also realizes financial gains from adopting a patient-based care. The benefits will result from increased patients' satisfaction, which consequently leads to an increase in the market share of the entity.
Strengths of the Initiative
The initiative will aid in promoting the ethical and democratic rights of patients. A patient-centered approach to health care will curb unethical practices carried out by medical practitioners such as wrong patient medication (Testi, Tanfani, & Ivaldi, 2010). It will also improve the validity of decision making. A patient-based health care, boosts association with customers, thus, helps in identifying and responding to their needs (AQA, 2007).
