Evidence-based practice (EBP) describes a scholarly problem-solving approach that allows a professional to translate existing research evidence on a topic of interest into clinical practice that facilitates the delivery of high-quality care (Keib et al., 2017). Nursing research describes the systematic investigation that is mainly designed to facilitate the generation of new knowledge that can be generalized to the population (Keib et al., 2017). While the two concepts share similarities, they differ in regards to purpose, impact, the role of the nurse, and methodological approach.
The purpose of EBP is the translation of research to practice in a way that facilitates the eventual effectiveness of a given treatment. Thus, it discourages the use of tradition to guide practice by introducing an interdisciplinary approach that facilitates consistency in practice.
