The Energy Systems in the Body
The three energy systems in the body entail phosphagen (ATP-CP) energy, anaerobic glycolysis ad aerobic glycolysis systems. Through these systems, the body can get energy from the consumed food. The Phosphagen system utilizes creatine phosphate (CP) and rapidly produces ATP (Gagliardi, 2019). The creatine phosphate is applied to rebuild ATP after it is disintegrated to produce energy. Muscles store a minimal amount of CP and ATP. Hence, they have limited energy to facilitate contraction. However, energy is readily available and it is integral in starting intensive activities that last for up to 30 seconds. Examples of such activities are ball throwing, lifting weight, and sprinting.
The anaerobic glycolysis system operates without oxygen but requires energy in glucose form to create ATP. Its activities take place in the cytoplasm and break glucose into pyruvate. Anaerobic glycolysis is an intermediary that interlinks phosphagen and the aerobic system and it forms rapidly ATP to actions that need protracted spates of energy over an extended period (between ...
