Introduction
Social media has become an important tool in shaping opinions and perceptions in human beings today. With access to the internet increasing sharply over the past few years, people continually engage with others (Chatzopoulou et al., 2020). Specifically, a significant portion of the millennial and the Generation Z population that grew up in the era of the evolving internet depends on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (King University, 2019). As a result, such individuals have access to materials and information that is both positive and negative with regard to body image and overall health. On the internet, males are mostly driven toward having an ideal body shape, which in most cases involves a muscular and well-shaped chest and arms (Piatkowski et al., 2020). Consequently, such engagement with social media can positively impact the levels of self-confidence, healthy diets, and fitness capabilities in males.
Role of Social Media in Influencing Behavior
There has been an increase in the advocacy of inclusivity on the internet for all body types, which continues to shape individuals' perceptions. Such advocacy provides avenues for male users to understand all types of bodies and begin the process of accepting themselves (Pounders and Mabry-Flynn, 2019; Mahon and Hevey, 2021). More so, individuals struggling with eating disorders can be able to engage with others with the same problem (Cavazos-Rehg et al., 2020).
