Evaluating projects is essential to inform the implementers about the changes induced and determine whether they were successful. Boivin (2019) indicates that reflecting on an integrated approach to executing operations in a facility using different evaluation tools and metrics assists in clarifying areas of improvement and identifying achieved objectives. In the context of this project change, assessing the length of hospitalization among the inpatients within the hemodialysis department highlights one of the ways of evaluating whether the initiative triggered a difference in practice.
The issue of nursing shortages in healthcare departments triggers diverse consequences ranging from burnout among the professionals, dissatisfaction with provided healthcare services, and poor health outcomes to increased length of hospitalization. According to Jarrar et al. (2018), increasing the number of nurses through the acuity-based staffing approach would eliminate most of these challenges.
