Social determinants of health refer to the economic and social factors within one's environment that determine their health. These factors could be in the workplace, at home, or in the social amenities people visit (Donkin et al., 2018). People's living conditions play a major role in determining whether they will have certain health problems. Certain living conditions, such as poverty, increase the chances of an individual getting diseases. Other conditions reduce the chance of disease occurrence.
If an individual is exposed to social health determinants that contribute to the spread of infections, the chances are high that the person will get sick (Palmer et al., 2019). Among such determinants is poverty. If someone is living in poverty, they might not have the necessary resources to protect themselves from diseases.
