Poverty is a prevalent social issue that has vast impacts globally. Although the degree varies across countries, the phenomenon still affects all nations. Undoubtedly, poverty correlates directly with diversity ranging from race, age, and gender, as evident in many countries. Specifically, ethnic diversity remains a significant social-economic disadvantage, translating into poverty (Churchill & Smyth, 2017). Racism is a term that refers to advantages and disadvantages system based on races. The scenario implies that poverty affects ethnic minorities disproportionately in most nations such as the US and UK due to the unequal distribution of resources, income disparities, among other inequalities.
United States
Several diversity factors relate to poverty in the US. For instance, income correlates with educational attainment levels. The consequential example is that children belonging to ethnic minorities such as African Americans tend to have relatively higher poverty rates than whites because they cannot afford quality education like their peers (García & Weiss, 2017). Again, income varies with age, whereby older individuals with higher work experience tend to earn more than the younger workers. Income levels vary across the racial-ethnic line in the united states, widening the poverty gap between the ethnic minorities and the whites (Kochhar & Cilluffo, 2018). Besides, the gender pay gap makes women poorer than men because male workers receive higher salaries than their female counterparts.
