Levels of Evidence
Levels of evidence are essential when making recommendation decisions. When it comes to patient care, these levels are based on the reliability and quality of the findings in the respective studies. The determination of the accuracy and validity of the same is usually dependent on the set of controls and the design of the studies. There are various levels of evidence which a clinical officer has to choose from for making recommendations. When a physician is looking for evidence-based information, he or she has to assess the data in order to have the most accurate bit of it. Meta-analysis or systemic reviews is the highest on the list, it's a combination of information from the other levels and is considered to have “filtered” information. This discussion focuses on the five levels of evidence, and their practice changes that may affect the results.
Level I.
Involves a large number of randomized cohort trials (RCTs). This is majorly used to study a particular cause of a disease in a large population. The researcher observes the behaviors, characteristics of the disease without intervening. The data collected is then taken for more analysis by the health experts. An excellent practical example of this level can be when determining a specific health problem in society (Hamilton, 2003).
Level II.
At this level, a small number of RCTs on individuals with unclear results are presented. This is very important as nothing should be assumed during the research of evidence (Brower, 2017).
