The new diagnostic criteria for the frontotemporal neurocognitive disorder proposed by The International Consortium provide three cases of diagnostic certainty (Bott et al., 2014). They include definite, probable, and possible. A possible diagnosis is given if a patient exhibits behaviour deterioration in addition to at least three of the following features (apathy, disinhibition, loss of empathy, changes in eating behaviour, and compulsive behaviour). For a probable diagnosis, a patient has to show a functional decline and neuroimaging consistent with frontotemporal neurocognitive disorder. Neuroimages consistent with a probable diagnosis include anterior or frontal temporal atrophy and frontal hypoperfusion on PET or SPECT. A definite diagnosis is given upon pathological and genetic confirmation of FTLD (Bott et al., 2014).
