Personal Leadership Philosophies
I believe one of the best ways to make this world a better place is through personal improvement; seeking to become a better person to oneself and those around one. My core values include integrity, respect, inclusiveness, and making a difference. To me, integrity means doing the right thing by myself and those around me. I also believe it is important to respect others even when they are different or hold opinions that differ from my own. This value overlaps with inclusiveness which encompasses making others feel at home. Through these values, I seek growth to become a better human being and make a difference.
My mission statement is “to encourage other people to be the best version of themselves.” I believe this mission statement is consistent with the core values I described above. This mission is in line with transformational leadership where the leader is “attentive to the needs and motives of followers and tries to help followers reach their fullest potential” (Northouse, 2019, p.264). If my actions and words can encourage someone to grow and become a better version of themselves, I will count it as an accomplishment of the mission. I think there are a lot of people out there that can use some encouragement and motivation to believe that their dreams are achievable. Through impacting such lives positively, I will be making a difference in this world.
My top five dominant themes according to CliftonStrengths Assessment are relator, learner, responsibility, harmony, and discipline. I could not agree more with these results. I believe these themes are consistent with my values and the person I am. I am a relator and I seek fulfilling relationships with the people around me, including family and friends. I always try to understand what people around are going through. While I sometimes enjoy small talk, I prefer engaging in conversations that cover personal feelings, goals, and dreams.
