Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychiatrist, is best known for his research on child development. For many years, he studied different stages of cognitive, social and physical development in children, and developed a theory regarding the same. According to Jean Piaget, we can divide the cognitive development of kids into four distinct stages: the concrete operational stage, sensorimotor stage, formal operational stage and preoperational stage (Willats & Costall, 2003).
Piaget revealed that at an early stage of their life (from 0 to 2 years), children get engaged in generic games and the changes in their behavior can be seen according to the game they play. For example, they are fascinated with simple objects, colors, and patterns, often try to connect dots with each other, and love filling empty containers (Glover & Landreth, 2015).
