Prostate cancer is cancer associated with the changes in the genetic makeup responsible for coding for a normal prostate. Prostate cancer has the highest recorded number of cases in the US and Delaware.
Incidence
In 2012, about 3749 cases of prostate cancer were recorded in Delaware. The figure accounts for about 26% of all male cases in the US. Among the three groups of males based on ethnicity and race, Non-Hispanic Caucasians, Non-Hispanic African American, and Hispanic, the Non-Hispanic Caucasians accounted for about 69% of the prostate cancer cases. Statistically, when the cases are determined, the Non-Hispanic African Americans tend to have a higher incidence of prostate cancer (214.4 per 100000) compared to both the Non-Hispanic Caucasians (132 per 100000) and Hispanics (120.9 per 100000). Also, comparing with the previous data obtained in 2002-2006, there has been a tremendous change in the figures. Comparing with the 2002-2016 data, the incidences of prostate cancer decreased by 27% in Delaware. The decrease was accompanied by decreased incidences by 31% in Non-Hispanic Caucasians, decreased incidences by 22% in Non-Hispanic African Americans, and decreased incidences by 34% in Hispanics. In terms of age, there was a high incident rate for prostate cancer cases in both Non-Hispanic Caucasians and Non-Hispanic African Americans at the age of 65-74 years. Conversely, the Hispanics recorded small figures based on age.
Mortality
Prostate cancer has been listed as the second cause of most deaths among males in the US and Delaware. In 2012-2016-year, about 420 males die of prostate cancer, accounting for 85 of all cancer-related deaths.
