Visit a veteran support service center in your city or area. It can be any kind of center that supports veterans such as the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and American Veterans (AMVETS). There are others including those that are unique to your community. Google "Veteran Service Centers" for your area to find some. Use your city in the search. You may need to word it differently such as "Veteran and Military Support Centers." Let me know if you need assistance. Here is a useful website to search for state and local resources.
https://www(dot)va(dot)gov/landing2_locations.htm
When you visit the center, inquire about their services, their mission/goals, how many veterans they serve in a given month or year, the age of the veteran population, and any information that will help you to better understand the services that are available to veterans in your community. Please follow Covid precautions. A zoom call or phone call is fine. It is not acceptable to pull the information from a website.
Write a 2-3 page report, not counting the title page and reference sheet. In your report, be sure to include the following:
Mission and Goals
What kind of center is it
How many veterans it serves per month or year
Age ranges of the population it serves
The person to whom you spoke
What you learned about the services provided to veterans
A one paragraph substantive reflection of your experience at the end of the paper
APA format required
Use of headings in your report per APA style
1-2 references
Turnitin score of 24% or less.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
I conducted this interview with the chair of the veterans’ affairs House Committee, Rep. Jeff Miller. He is in charge of lauding the work done by the group. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States is a nonprofit organization for veterans’ service. VFW is comprised of eligible military service members and veterans from guard, reserve and active forces. The organization was founded in 1902 after the 1898 Spanish-American war. After the war, many military members were sick or wounded, and there was no medical care or pension for veterans. The veterans then came together and formed the “Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.” The first chapters were developed in Colorado, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The organization quickly gained momentum, and currently, it has more than 1.5 million members.
VFW later developed the Veterans Administration and national cemetery system. In 2008, VFW won after GI Bill was passed because it increased the educational benefits to America’s members of reserves and guards, active duty service members, fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. VFW pushed for the Veterans Accountability and Access Act of 2014, and they have consistently fought for improved medicals centres for women veterans. In 2010, VFW developed the new Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, and it became the first veteran organization to do so. In 2015, it was also the first supporter of the “National Desert Storm War Memorial” that constructed its capital.
Mission and Goals
The mission of VFW is to foster Camaraderie among the veterans of the United States with overseas conflicts. They aim to serve the military, the veterans and the communities. They also aim to advocate issues on behalf of the veterans. Their vision is to ensure all the veterans get respect for their services, are acknowledged for the sacrifices they have made for the country, and get the entitlements they earned. The core values of VFW is to put the interest of their members first, respect the diverse opinions of veterans, serve the communities, honour military service, promote a positive VFW image, promote patriotism, ensure good care for veterans and their families, and perceive donors as partners in the cause.
