Evidence basis on diabetes intervention Name: Institution: Date: The onset of diabetes often leads to body harm because of hyperglycemia; this may cause complications among diabetic patients. Thus, the management of diabetes necessitates control of glycemic levels to minimize the potential impact of complications (Levine, 2008). To control the blood sugar level insulin therapy is recommended for type 2 diabetes, though it can also be used for treatment of type 1 diabetes. At the same time, insulin replacement therapy may be essential as management of diabetes through glucose lowering drugs especially in adults. Type I diabetes tends to affect younger people, while the risk of type 2 diabetes rises with age. According to Aslan et al (2013) insulin therapy is an effective way of controlling the glycemic level results to better lipid parameters for type 2 diabetes. The researchers looked into the impact of insulin on lipoproteins, specifically low density lipoproteins, high density lipoproteins and enzymes associated with high density lipoproteins. Diabetes increases the risk of cardio vascular diseases, while insulin resistance may impair lipid (Aslan et al., 2013). Studies suggest that cardio vascular complications in diabetic patients may result from structure of lipoprotein. Thus, insulin therapy may not only be essential in managing diabetes type 2, but is also effective in reducing the risk of vascular complications making the intervention one of the most popular treatment methods. The research by Aslan et al (2013) was based on a study group of 24 with those having prior vascular complications being excluded, and there was continuous monitoring of the glucose level in all patients. There was a decrease in the level of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins, but there was increase in high density cholesterol levels. The authors recorded a significant rise in the level of high lipoprotein levels. Low density cholesterol is d...
