Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the major causes of death in the US. According to Havranek et al. (2015), CVD accounted for 31.9% of the deaths in 2010. It is expected that the prevalence of the disease in the US will rise 10% from 2010 to 2030 due to aging population, physical inactivity, hypertension, obesity, and diabetes mellitus (Havranek et al., 2015).
According to Forman et al. (2016), CVD outcomes in older adults have improved. Heart failure (HF) therapeutic options according to the authors include behavioral interventions, devices, and medications. In a randomized trial involving HF 8442 patients, the drug sacubitril used in combination with valsartan was found to significantly reduce cardiovascular deaths, HF hospitalizations, and related symptoms (Forman et al., 2016).
