The Difference Between Drug Use and Drug Abuse
This discussion is based on Chapter 8 of our text - "Addictions." Your assignment is to submit a short essay that will
1) Address the difference between "use" and "abuse" of drugs (including legal and illegal ones) in our daily lives, and
2) Reflect on your personal encounter or observation of "a case of abuse" that resulted in harmful/sorrowful/regrettable consequences to the victim and or his/her family/friends/community, and what you learned from it
You do not have to use real name of the "victim" in your essay (for privacy reasons). But do see this assignment as an invaluable educational experience for the whole class, the instructor included. Your contribution to the discussion should help us all to become wiser and more responsible citizens of the society.

While drugs can be used, they can also be abused. Use of drugs is the irregular and low frequency consumption of drugs. In this case, the user understands when to use the drug and when not to. Use of drugs involves taking risks. Use of drugs means considering these risks and limiting them. Therefore, the use of drugs is sensible as one understands that they should not take too much. In the use of drugs, the person ensures he or she is in a good environment and is prepared for the use. On the other hand, abuse of drugs is the compulsive and regular use of drugs (American Psychiatric Association, 2017). Abuse of drugs, therefore, happens when the associated risks are not taken into consideration. In this case, the use of drugs is done for the wrong reasons and without following any rules. Use and abuse applies to both legal and illegal drugs....
