Across the world, many states have their medical services governed by the government and financed through the tax payers’ money. In such countries, all citizens are set to access to health care services through a specific health care plan. Contrary to these countries, the USA has a different kind of system for its health care service delivery. Whereby there is no guaranteed health care coverage to her citizens. On the other hand, the USA healthcare delivery system is not what the name implies. Therefore, it may be confusing when we say America health care delivery ‘system' because a real system does not exist regarding cost access and quality, the system have undergone a series of changes. Following this, providing a basic package of health care to each and every individual is an uphill task that cannot have its realization soon. Trying to balance between the costs of better health care and the growing population is a significant challenge to the nation. Many institutions, organizations, and individuals all take part in providing preventive, primary, auxiliary and general health care services. Thus, the US health care delivery system is a kaleidoscope of financing, insurance, delivery and payment mechanisms, which are loosely coordinated.
The US health care delivery system has four main interrelated components that ensure proper functioning of the health care delivery. There is a coordination of these elements to some extent. Insurance, financing, delivery and payment are the components, and which have their representation by a combination of a private sector and the government sources. Therefore, only those who meet the state requirements are eligible to access the government run programs. The US health care delivery system is not only limited to those citizens who qualify but also to the military personnel, the veterans and those who depend on city and county health care provision. The US is one of the largest countries worldwide, so is her economy. Therefore health care service forms one of the major contributors to her economic output. In general, the above four main components influences the delivery of health care.
The US economy attracts many different private entrepreneurs because of the market motivated economy of US. The employers, therefore, buys the health insurance covers for their workers from the private sources. For the disabled, low-income earners, elderly and pediatric populations, they receive their insurance cover from the Medicare, Medicaid and state children's insurance program (SCHIP). The government funds these health care insurance providers. Many citizens that are insured publicly tend to receive their cover from the private entities such HMOs as well as private physicians and hospitals. The interaction of the private sector and the government health institutions has resulted in the following; financial arrangements has made it easier for citizens to pay for health care services.
