A nurse researcher comes to the psychiatric unit where you are working and states that she is conducting research involving teenage girls who have been sexually assaulted. The researcher learned that a 15-year-old girl had just been admitted to your unit. She wants to ask the girl a series of questions and draw some blood. Without a parent present, the researcher asks the 15-year-old if she can ask her some questions about her experiences. The adolescent seems reluctant but agrees to the interview. The researcher talks with the patient and then asks to draw some blood. After talking with the patient and drawing blood, the researcher leaves the unit without documenting the procedure. You feel uncomfortable about the interview and blood draw, and the next day, you talk with the charge nurse about the situation.

She also drew blood from the girl without the parent’s consent. This clearly depicts non-respect for autonomy.
