MANPOWER AND DEMOGRAPHICS
As the first assignment, please do the following:
Select a health care organization of your choice such as Kaiser Permanente, Veterans Health Administration, TRICARE, Cleveland Clinic, etc., and provide a brief introduction, including the organization mission, long- or short-term goals, and cost-cutting strategies.
Gather as much information about the program as possible since the remainder of the Session Long Project will focus upon information specific to the program.
NOTE: The rationale for this assignment is to provide an opportunity for you to look deeper into a health care organization and its delivery of health care services, including its leadership and its strategy in complying with being an Accountable Care Organization and complying with the Affordable Care Act of 2010.

You will be evaluated on your understanding of the long- and short-term goals, objectives, and strategy of your selected organization.

Kaiser Permanente was founded by Henry Kaiser and Sidney Garfield in 1945 (Kaiser Foundation Hospital, 2013). It is a non-profit organization operating as an umbrella federation for profit medical organizations. Kaiser Permanente is an integrated health care organization comprising of the Kaiser Foundation health plan and the Kaiser Foundation hospitals (Kaiser Foundation Hospital, 2013).
Kaiser Foundation mission is to provide high-quality, affordable health care services to its members and the communities they serve. The foundation is dedicated to offering broad, high-quality care through innovative and continuous quality improvements. These are achieved through research; workforce development healthcare education and community support (Kaiser Foundation Hospital, 2013).
Currently, Kaiser Permanente covers nine states of Northern California, Ohio, and Oregon, Mid-Atlantic covering Washington D.C. Maryland and Virginia. The foundation also operates in Hawaii, Georgia, Colorado, and Southern California. Kaiser Foundation is one of the largest nonprofit health care maintenance organizations with 8.3million members, 134,000 employees, generating $ 22.5 billion annually (Kaiser Foundation Hospital, 2013).
Kaiser Foundation focuses on three areas, providing access to high-quality care targeting low-income and underserved communities. Offering safe, healthy environment within communities and developing new medical knowledge that can be widely emulated to enhance competency. In pursuit of its mission, the foundation goes beyond philanthropy and provision of grants to engage in medical research. It also dedicates its resources towards addressing serious public health concerns including violence, obesity and access to care (Kaiser Foundation Hospital, 2013).
Short-Term Goals
One of the focus areas is offering comprehensive quality care services by increasing access to health care services. This involves early detection of illnesses and offering chronic management services. Innovation forms part of the foundations short-term goals. The foundation aims at improving its operations providing cost effective care services (McCarthy, Mueller, & Wrenn, 2009).
Some of the planned initiatives that would enhance patient access and services include patients having personal primary care physicians, through such initiatives, patients can have short telephone call wait and also receive timely appointment. Offering timely and convenient appointment aims at offering efficient services whereby patients are designated to one primary care physician for a specific date and acceptable times using teleservice (McCarthy, Mueller, & Wrenn, 2009).
Using teleservices, patients are expected to receive electronic notifications from the physician's office to confirm appropriate time and date. When necessary, patients will be permitted to consult the doctor through the phone. These initiatives will enhance access to care and information to minimize the demand on emergency departments (McCarthy, Mueller, & Wrenn, 2009).
