In his book, Clooney (2018) proposes to expound the ordinary meditational process of yoga in a spiritual context, specifically in relation to the Christian's observation of Lent. Despite the author being a passive practitioner of yoga, he has observed the close relationship between physical exercise and spiritual practice. Clooney reiterates that "while this program cannot be thought to be identical to what Christian might do in Lent, the idea that these forty days should foster the quest for inner tranquility and detachment should surprise no one." (p. 29). Yoga in the Christian context, however "is more of spiritual and intellectual doing and undoing aimed at unclogging the deeper layers of the self that have been stifled and strangled" (Clooney, 2018 p. 33). In a consistent reference of the Yoga Sutras, Clooney seeks to match different yoga practices, in essence, the eight limbs of yoga, to a spiritual perspective, particularly when the observation of Lent is perceived to be a discipline. Clooney, in some kind of metaphoric representation, interrelates the coordinated movement in yoga with the interconnection with some spiritual practices giving an example that "not doing evil is not a one-time achievement, just as one does not get beyond learning to sit rest, and breathe mindfully" (Clooney, 2018 p. 39). The interconnection observed by Clooney can be a great lesson for contemporary Christians.
