A healing hospital is considered to ideal for sick people because it has the ability of rendering not only medical and physical services to the sick but also total loving and compassionate care from the staff members. This paper will discuss the components of a healing hospital and its spiritual relationship. I will also identify some of the challenges that are faced when creating a healing hospital environment and finally focus on some of the biblical aspects that support this environment.
Healing is the process of restoring the wholeness of something; therefore, curing a patient is different from healing a patient. Eberst (2008) identified the following to be the ideal components of a healing hospital:
* Healing physical environment.
* Integration of work design and technology.
* "Radical Loving Care" culture.
Healing Physical Environment
The healing physical environment plays an important role in the recovery of patients since it enables them together with their family members to cope with the situation. This environment can be created by all staff members by providing love and compassionate care to the patients as they will like to care about themselves. The healing physical environment should be clean and free from noise; this will ensure that the patients get enough rest that will help their tissues to repair quickly. The patients will have a cool environment where they will mediate with their creator boosting the spiritual wellbeing.
Integration of Work Design and Technology
In the modern society, technology is playing a crucial role in enhancing our living conditions that we all desire. Technology plays a big role in influencing a healing hospital by improving the care delivery system of the hospital. Technology is being used by physicians to run tests on the patients to establish their problems. Patients can also watch and listen to healing music; cleaning machines that have proved to be silent can also be used to clean the hospital environment to reduce noise. All of these have been possible due to technology.
