In the study the controls brought about some element of comparison whereby the researchers were able to establish some level ground to use in their analysis. The controls were matched to the cases and at the same time the controls matched with ages of the cases (Trafimow, 2003). This thus provides the controls with an age oriented comparison in the study relative to the various cases used (Murphy & Myors, 1999). To ascertain that all the controls did not have any element of bias, they were selected using the sequential digit dialing. This is to mean that the controls were selected at random, through the generation of random telephone numbers. To identify the controls, one has to use the risk level, whereby the controls are under relatively lower risk levels (Serlin, 1987).
