Compare and Contrast the Blood Pressure of the Pulmonary and Systemic Circuit
RESEARCH
Blood pressure refers to the force exerted on arteries and blood vessels during heart contraction. In particular, normal blood pressure is supposed to be around 120/80 (systolic/diastolic). Pulmonary circuit blood pressure entails the force that moves blood between the lungs and heart. Notably, deoxygenated blood is transported to the lungs to release carbon dioxide and absorb oxygen (Vriz et al., 2020). In contrast, systemic circulation involves the blood flow from the capillaries to other parts of the body. In that light, blood takes oxygen into the body cells and returns to the heart with carbon dioxide released in the lungs. The primary similarity between systemic and pulmonary circulation is that ventricles develop pressure. The left ventricle creates blood pressure in the systemic circulation, while the right ventricle does the same in the pulmonary circulation (Vriz, Motoji, Ferrara, Bossone, & Naeije, 2018).
CRITICAL THINKING
Both systemic and pulmonary circuit blood pressures facilitate the normal functioning of the body. The best mnemonic that can help differentiate systemic and pulmonary circulation is by relating them to their respective ventricles. For example, a person can use LV-SC (left ventricle-systemic circulati...
